Age 87 of Horseheads, NY passed away peacefully at home on Friday May 13, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Bernard was born June 30 ,1928 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Thomas Patrick and Catherine Thomas Dailey. He was a graduate of Elmira Catholic High School. Bernie was a Veteran of World War II and The Korean War serving his country with The U.S. Marine Corps. He married his wife, Barbara Seaman Dailey, on April 17, 1948 in St. Patrick's Church in Elmira, NY and they recently celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary. Bernie and Barbara moved to Horseheads in 1950 where he built their home and raised their children. Mr. Dailey owned and operated Dailey & Spencer Garage in Horseheads, NY for several years and he retired as Foreman of Motor Vehicles for NY Telephone / Verizon in Elmira, NY in 1989. Bernie was a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads and a long-time member of The Nocturnal Adoration Society. He was also a member of The E.J. Brewer Marine Corps League and The Ancient Order of Hibernians in Elmira, NY. Mr. Dailey is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years Barbara; his beloved and devoted children and spouses: Mary Kay & Graydon L. "Woody" Woodworth of Horseheads, NY , Berneice & Gregory Haskell of Chemung , NY, Barbara Dailey Welliver of Elmira, NY, Christine & Scott Cook of Elmira, NY and Matthew & Celeste Dailey of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; 14 cherished grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; sister Rita Wayne of Rochester, NY; sisters-in-law: Donna (Steve) Maser of Portland, Oregon and Patricia Dailey of Hornell, NY; numerous nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of special friends and neighbors, Craig & Jeannie Smith, Judy (Larry) Mattola and Art (Carol) Huftalen. Mr. Dailey was pre-deceased by his mother-in-law Catherine Palmer Seaman McElroy, his brother Paul Dailey, brothers-in-law Bill Wayne, Donald Seaman, Robert Seaman and Bill Mooha and sisters-in-law, Jean Mooha and Phyllis McCoy. Bernie loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Bernie enjoyed playing several instruments throughout his life including the harmonica, accordion and drums. He especially enjoyed watching all his children's and grandchildren's sporting events as well as being an avid and loyal fan of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Syracuse Orangemen, South Carolina Gamecocks and New York Yankees. His favorite times were spent celebrating his Irish heritage with family & friends, summers on Seneca Lake, relaxing on the front porch and family outings at the pool in their backyard. The Family would like to give a special thank you to Heidi and the Hospice nurses, as well as special caregiver Hazel Broock. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday May 18 , 2016 at St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 West Broad Street Horseheads , NY at 10 AM. Mr. Dailey will be laid to rest in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery in Horseheads , NY where Full Military Honors will be accorded by The E.J. Brewer Marine Corps League. Officers and members of the A.O.H. will meet at the Lynch Funeral Home 318 West Broad Street Horseheads , NY on Tuesday May 17 , 2016 at 5:30 PM to conduct a prayer service for our brother, Bernie.
