Obituary of Mary Lou Roemer
Mary Lou Roemer (nee Durica) age 83 of Horseheads, NY went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday May 19, 2025 . She is survived by her loving husband, David Roemer, her three children, Rhonda (Roemer) Stephani, Sandra (Glenn) Myers, and Douglas (Christina) Roemer, her brother, David (Diane) Durica, her six grandchildren, Nathan, Nicole, Dustin, Dallas, Emilee and Olivia, and eleven great-grandchildren. Mary Lou was born on March 28, 1942, in Philipsburg, PA to Louis and Vivian Durica. As a young girl, Mary Lou enjoyed music and singing. She learned to play the piano by age 12 and participated in many choirs throughout her life. She studied nursing in Philipsburg and became a nurse at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN and Jersey Shore Hospital in PA. She then went on to be head nurse at Elcor Nursing Facility in Horseheads, NY, where she continued to volunteer in retirement. Mary Lou served in her career for 38 years. On June 15, 1963, high school sweethearts David and Mary Lou married. They lived in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania for about 20 years, raising their three children before moving to Horseheads, New York in 1987. They enjoyed spending their retirement traveling or at their family cabin at Whitehall Camp in Emlenton, PA. David and Mary Lou were the prime example of a God-fearing marriage, preserving faith and family legacy at their forefront for 62 years. In her free time, Mary Lou had many hobbies. She played the organ and piano at church and enjoyed gardening outdoors; she took pride in her backyard and flower beds. When she wasn't outside, cooking, or playing the piano, she could be found spoiling her grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as Mimi. She attended all their sporting events, brought them yard sale hunting, took them on vacations, and snapped photos of them every chance she had. But above all else, her love and faithfulness in God shone the brightest – igniting every interaction she had with others. In the final months of Mary Lou's life, her husband David and daughter Rhonda lovingly ensured her safety, peace, and comfort. The Roemer family extends their gratitude to Guthrie Corning Hospital and Elcor Nursing Facility for their exceptional, compassionate care, especially in the last week of Mary Lou's life.
