Obituary of Sheila M. Comfort

Sheila M. Comfort age 72 of Horseheads, NY passed away at home on Thursday May 22, 2025. She was born January 1, 1953 in Elmira , NY the daughter of the late Francis and Delores Louise Johnson Palmer . Sheila was a graduate of Horseheads High School. She married her husband, James D. Comfort Jr. , on August 31, 1974 and they would have celebrated their 51 st Wedding Anniversary August 31, 2025. In addition to her parents, Sheila was pre-deceased by her brothers and sisters Ray "Butch" Palmer, Bonnie Austin, Dolly Lavigne, and Joe Palmer as well as her brother-in-law Lacey Little and sister -in-law Sharon Comfort Spencer . She was a retired school bus driver for The Horseheads Central School District. She loved her family and friends and adored all of her grandchildren. Sheila is survived by her loving and devoted husband James D. Comfort Jr. ; son and daughter-in-law: James D. Comfort III and Kaylee Comfort of Horseheads, NY ; daughter and son-in-law: Melissa and Kevin Armstrong of Bermuda; six grandchildren : Brendan (Alissa) Comfort , Temma (Alex) Van Fleet , Hannah Comfort, Samantha DePue, Gabriel Armstrong , and Ava Armstrong; three great grandchildren: Reagan Comfort , Emma-Lee Comfort, and Alan Comfort ; sisters and brother : Diane Little , Gary (Darla) Palmer , and Cindy (Tom) Ruggiero; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: JoAnne Comfort , Gary (Linda) Comfort, Diane Comfort , Albert Austin, and Dan Spencer II ; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Sunday June 1, 2025 from 2-4 PM. Sheila's Funeral Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours. Sheila will be laid to rest at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, NY at the convenience of the family.
