Harry Augustus Hillman II age 87 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Tuesday August 19, 2025 at The Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born June 23, 1938 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Dr. Augustus Harry Hillman and Mary Tong Hillman. Harry went to school at Number 11 School ( Hoffman Street School ) and George Washington Junior High School. Harry enrolled in Hill Prep School and excelled in sports especially football. Harry loved sports of all kind and was a lifelong New York Giants and New York Yankee fan. Harry was captain of his basketball team in high school and also played football and hockey. He then attended Hatch Prep School where he was influenced by his sister Mary Elizabeth to study and graduate so he could go to college , go to fraternity parties, and and meet girls which motivated him tremendously. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Hobart College and was a member of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity where he made friends he stayed in contact with his whole life and received his Master's Degree in Education from Elmira College in 1963. He did post graduate work at Cornell University and at The University of Florida. Harry married his first wife Martha E. Suffern Hillman on June 16, 1962 and she pre-deceased him on March 2, 1987. He was also pre-deceased by his sister Mary Elizabeth Van Wagner formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY. He met Jennifer D. Hetherton Schieder who was an English Teacher at Horseheads Middle School where he was the principal. On September 14, 1988 Harry married Jennifer D. Hetherton Schieder and they would have celebrated their 37th Wedding Anniversary on September 14, 2025. He enjoyed all sports especially water skiing and sailing with Jennifer , hunting and the outdoors, and model trains. Harry was a member of The Mayflower Society and the Sons of The American Revolution. He loved this community where family relatives have lived since the 1730's . He was so proud of each and everyone of his children , grandchildren, and his and Jennifer's two great grandchildren. He was an avid football fan and would watch at least one or two games a week from August through Super Bowl in February. Harry retired as a principal with The Horseheads Central School District. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Horseheads. In addition to his parents Harry was pre-deceased by his sister Mary Elizabeth Hillman Van Wagner. Harry loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Harry is survived by his wife of nearly 37 years Jennifer D. Hetherton Hillman ; his son: David and Kelly Hillman of Duluth, GA ; his daughters: Beth Hillman and Charles Robillard of Kenton , Delaware and Susan Hillman of Chester, MD and Heather and Matthew Zoller of Lunenburg, VA and Paula Marie Scheider Rock of Hampstead, NC; grandchildren: US Air Force Lt. Colonel John Christopher and US Air Force Lt. Colonel Stacy Rankin of Alexandria, VA , Kristen Anne Rankin of Juneau , Alaska, Brittany Noelle Hillman of Ft. Myers, Florida, Ashley Nicole Hillman of Gainesville , Florida , Kaitlyn Christine Hillman of Bellefonte, PA , Drew and Nicole Zoller of Lunenburg,VA, Jake and Kourtney Zoller of Greenwood, Maine; great grandchildren: Rebel Zoller of Lunenburg, VA , Knox Zoller of Greenwood, Maine, and Erica Rock of Hampstead, NC sister: Nancy Hinckley of Shaker Heights, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at The First United Methodist Church of Horseheads 1034 West Broad Street Horseheads, NY on Thursday August 28, 2025 from 2:30 to 3:30 PM. Harry's Funeral Services will follow at 3:30 PM. The Rev Jeff MacDowell will officiate. Harry will be laid to rest in Ashland Cemetery in Wellsburg, NY at the convenience of the family.
