Joseph F. Coletta age 76 of Elmira, NY passed away on Thursday October 2, 2025. Joe was born April 20, 1949 in Elmira , NY the son of Joseph N. and Rose J. Messina Coletta. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and received his Masters of Science Degree from Elmira College. Joe married his loving and devoted wife, Karen Berry Coletta, on April 22, 1972 and they had recently celebrated their 53rd Wedding Anniversary on April 22, 2025.Joe was a former credit and Collections Supervisor for Ingersoll Rand and retired as a Support Investigator for Chemung County Department of Social Services. He was a member of the Horseheads Kiwanis Club, The Elmira Elks Club , The White Eagles Club, and The Italian American Veterans Club. In Addition to his parents, Joe was pre-deceased by his sister-in-law Martha (Mrs. Steve) Peao. Joe loved his community and volunteered as former chairman of the Chemung County Planning Board , Former President of CSEA Local 905, Board member of Forest Lawn Memorial Park , a Notary Public, a Docent for The Corning Museum of Glass , Compeer, St. Peter & Paul's Folk Group, NYS Community Collaborative Rain Recorder, a Little League Coach, and served his country with The Army National Guard. He was active in local politics, an accomplished musician and piano player with Clayt Blanford and The Aristocrats, a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan after meeting Jim Brown in Elmira, and an avid New York Yankees fan. Joe had been a communicant of St. Anthony's Church , St. Peter & Paul's Church , and St. Mary's Church Southside . Joe is survived by his loving and devoted wife Karen Berry Coletta; his sons : Christopher & Katie Coletta and Joel and Emily Coletta ; Poppy's beloved grandchildren : Henry and Parker Coletta and Flynn Coletta ; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Kathy and Doug Kapral , JoAnn and Larry Daley , Patty O'Connell, and Michael Berry; several nieces , nephews , cousins, and a host of caring friends. Joe's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday October 10, 2025 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Southside Church 223 Franklin Street Elmira, NY. The Rev. Scott Kubinski will be the Celebrant of Joe's Funeral Mass. Joe will be laid to rest in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery in Elmira, NY. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that Joe be remembered through memorial donations to The Elmira Animal Shelter 842 Linden Place Elmira, NY 14901.
