It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Suzanne O. Ray, age 86, who peacefully passed away on October 9, 2025, surrounded with her loved ones. Born in Elmira, NY on May 24, 1939, Suzanne graduated from Horseheads High School in 1958. On July 3, 1958 she married the love of her life, Jeffrey B. Ray, with whom she spent many happy years until his passing. Suzanne is survived by her three children. Debra White of Paonia, CO; Cheryl Whyte (Michael) of Fairport, NY; and Jeffrey Ray (Carrie) of Horseheads, NY. She is also survived by her beloved brother, Harold Opdyke (Diane) of The Villages, FL, along with her ten cherished grandchildren, thirteen great- grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Harold Opdyke and Mildred Johnson Opdyke, she was predeceased by her husband Jeffrey B. Ray on June 22,2012. Throughout her life, Suzanne wore many hats. She worked as an interior decorator, as a bank teller, as an office manager for a hospital business office and even drove a school bus. Yet, no role brought her more joy than being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Suzanne and Jeff enjoyed many adventures, especially their camping trips along the eastern coast of the US and into Canada. Suzanne was a gifted artist, leaving behind beautiful watercolor paintings, and intricate wooden creations that will be treasured by her grandchildren for years to come. She also had a passion for gardening and took great pride in her home. A special place in Suzanne's heart was reserved for Keuka Lake, where she spent endless summers at her parent's cottage and later at her daughter Cheryl's lake home. These summers were filled with family gatherings and enduring memories. Suzanne's love for her family was unwavering, and she will be remembered as a devoted mother, joyful grandmother and a proud great grandmother. She leaves a legacy of love, laughter and artistic beauty. A Celebration of Suzanne's Life will be held on Friday November 14, 2025 at St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira, NY 14904 at 9:30 AM. Livestreaming available. Suzanne will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Maple Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
