Russell Lucas

August 23, 1936 - May 3, 2026

Russell Lucas, age 89, of Beaver Dams, New York, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026 with family at his side, leaving behind a lifetime defined by hard work, dedication, humor, and deep love for his family.

Born on August 23, 1936, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Russell was the son of the late Leslie Lucas and Mary Lucas Watson. He graduated from Renovo High School in 1954 and went on to enlist in the United States Army in 1955. He served proudly for three years, spending time in Japan, a place he spoke of often and fondly throughout his life.

Russell built a steady and hardworking career. He was employed at the Water & Sewage Treatment Plant in Williamsport before working as a millwright at the Ann Page Plant from 1965 until its closing in 1982. He later joined Polly-O Cheese in 1985, where he worked as a production worker and served as Chief Union Steward until his retirement in 1997. He also worked as the Beaver Valley Water Operator.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Fred Lucas. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Carol Lucas, and his brothers Thomas (Carolyn) Lucas, Leslie (Cheryl) Lucas, and Larry (Donna) Lucas.

Russell was a devoted father to his five children: Sandra (Mark) Richer, Linda Bryan, Russell (Becky) Lucas, Brenda (Marvin) Densmore, and Kevin (Melissa) Lucas. He was a proud grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of 8. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his loyal dog, Hunter.

Russell enjoyed the simple things in life and found great joy in the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and taking care of his lawn. He was also a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State. He cared deeply for his neighbors, always lending a hand, and was grateful for the kindness they returned. He was known for his teasing, his storytelling, and was often seen riding his John Deere Gator around, never far from a shovel.

He will be remembered as a hardworking man with a quick wit and a lifelong devotion to his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 9th at 4:00pm at Grace Lee Memorial Wesleyan Church 2075 Chambers Road Beaver Dams, NY , where family and friends are invited to gather in his memory and celebrate the life he lived.
