J. Earl Manwaring age 71 of Millport, NY passed away on Tuesday June 16, 2026. He was born March 18, 1955 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Clarence and June Fulford Manwaring. J. was also pre-deceased by several brothers and sisters as well as a special niece, Krislyn Manwaring. J. was a Marine Corps Veteran serving during The Vietnam Era. He married his wife and best friend Patricia R. Sydoriak Manwaring on May 20, 1978 and they celebrated their 48th Wedding Anniversary on May 20, 2026. Dedicated to his community, J. served as Mayor of Millport , sexton of Millport Cemetery, and a member and former Fire Chief of the Millport Fire Department, where he held many leadership positions. He was a retired computer programmer for Schweizer / Sikorsky Aircraft in Big Flats, NY . J. loved his family and friends more than life itself and treasured every moment spent with them. Of all the titles he held throughout his life – Marine, Mayor, Fire Chief, Husband, Father, and Friend -the title of "Papa" was among the most precious to him. His 5 grandchildren were the light of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He also had a playful and generous spirit, even stepping into the role of Santa at Christmas time to bring joy and excitement to his grandchildren and others he loved. When he wasn't serving his community or spending time with family, J. and Pat enjoyed taking trips to the casino, where they could relax and have fun. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Patricia R. Manwaring ; his daughters and sons-in-law: Crystal and Justin Spicher of Millport, NY and Jessica and Daniel Smith of Painted Post, NY ; his grandchildren: Tyler(Katherine), Lilly(Tre), Natalie Jae, Mackenzie, and Stephanie; his brothers: Lance, Jack, Frank, Clarence Jr. , Michael Sr. , and Vincent Sr. along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSHEADS, NY on Monday June 22, 2026 from 3-6 PM. Funeral Service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 6 PM with Rev. David Knuppenburg officiating. J. will be laid to rest in Millport Cemetery at a later date . In lieu of flowers , the family requests that memorial donations be made in J's memory to The Millport Cemetery Association 2038 Cemetery Road Millport, NY.
