Obituary of Delores M. Benesh

Delores Mae "Dory" Benesh Age 85 of 344 Chambers Road Horseheads, NY went to be with her Lord after passing away peacefully on Friday November 9, 2018. She was staying at the Homestead Assisted Living Facility in Apalachin, NY where she was extremely well cared for while battling dementia. Dory was born February 13 , 1933 in Pine Valley, NY the daughter of the late Earle and Velma Landon Russell and grew up in Sullivanville. Dory was a graduate of Horseheads High School. Delores Mae Russell "Dory" was married on August 20 , 1950 to the love of her life Richard Eugene "Dick" Benesh who pre-deceased her on November 28, 2017 after over 67 years of marriage . In addition to her parents, Dory was predeceased by her older sister Betty and her grandson Garry A. Benesh Jr. All were welcomed at the farm on Chambers Road where she raised and corralled 3 boys Rick, Garry and Tim along with numerous pets. In her early child raising years she was a Cub Scout Den Mother and baked pies for the airport. To help send her knucklehead kids to college she started a career as an Interior Decorator at Edgcomb's Carriage House. Then later she opened Dory's Gift Shop in the back of her home where she sold her handmade crafts, quilting, stained glass, books and trinkets. She was a proud member of Pine Valley Baptist Church and a former member of The Catlin United Methodist Church. Dory loved her family and friends and treasured the time she spent with them. Dory is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law : Richard R. & Claire Benesh of Mechanicsburg , PA , Garry A. & Pam Benesh of Owego , NY , and Tim & Mary Benesh of Beaver Dams , NY ; grandchildren : Shiloh Benesh Johnson & Ian Johnson , Lydia & Michael Zwatty ,Aaron & Tara Benesh , Lauren Benesh and Amber Benesh ; great grandchildren : Isaac , Noah , and Ezra Johnson , Wyatt and Maverick Zwatty , Alexis, Devin , and Rianna Benesh . Dory is also survived by several nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Saturday November 17 , 2018 from 2-4 PM . Mrs. Benesh's Funeral Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 4 PM. Her Pastor Andrew Gable will officiate . Dory will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Dick in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, NY on Monday November 19,2018 at 10 AM.
