Obituary of Margarete Snead

SNEAD MARGARETE U. Margarete, age 95, was born in Stettin, Germany, the youngest of three sisters, to Hermann and Elisabeth Rinke in 1921. She met her husband of 60 years, Michael Snead in Berlin, Germany at the end of WWII when she was employed by the U.S. Army and Mike was an American soldier. They married in 1947 and had three children, Thomas, Lorraine and Jane. Margarete was a master artist creating beautiful paintings using various media including oil, pastels and water colors. She was also a draftswoman and bookkeeper. She loved playing golf, gardening and traveling the world with Michael. She enjoyed her grandchildren and her great grandchildren and was very supportive to everyone in her family. Margarete attended First Presbyterian Church in Elmira with her daughter Jane and son-in-law Mark. She was loved and had many friends in Church and also in Appleridge where she lived for 11 years. She is predeceased by her parents and sisters. Margarete is survived by children Thomas and wife Mei-chu Snead; Lorraine Armour and husband Greg Smith; Jane and husband Mark Ivanick. Grandchildren and great grandchildren are Ryan and wife Stephani Snead, Iris and Willow; Sage Armour and children Sequoia, Sky and Sebastion; Jayne and husband Eli Buchanan, Isaac and Zephyr; and Benjamin Armour; Lauren and husband Ryan Bergstrom, Luke and Claire; Nathaniel and wife Kristen Ivanick, Scarlett and Ethan; David and wife Shilpa Ivanick, and Taj. Margarete was a lovely, caring and generous lady who will be missed by all. A Memorial Service Celebrating Mrs. Snead's Life will be held on Saturday April 29, 2017 at 11AM at the First Presbyterian Church 1054 West Clinton Street Elmira, NY. Arrangements are entrusted to the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY.
