Obituary of Gladis M. Wieland
Gladis Marie Blackwell Wieland "Glady" Age 101 of Horseheads, NY entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday November 4, 2021 at Bethany Manor. Gladis was born in Greenwood, Kansas on September 20, 1920 to Noah and Lucy Ann (Naff) Blackwell. She graduated from Weskan Consolidated High School in 1939. Gladis met Harold John Wieland at a barn dance and they were married in Silver Springs, Kansas on February 8, 1941. Gladis and Harold welcomed two sons, Timothy and Dennis and the family then moved to Horseheads, NY in 1957. Gladis was a homemaker and Harold was a land surveyor. She later worked at Broad Street Elementary school in the cafeteria in the 1970s and early 1980s and watched her grandsons after school. She enjoyed cross-stitch, quilting, cooking and baking, card games, puzzle books, watching Jeopardy, The Lawrence Welk show and attending concerts in Teal Park and Bethany Courtyards summer concert series. She loved big band music especially Glen Miller. Mrs. Wieland was a volunteer at Bethany for many years and an active member of The First Presbyterian Church in Horseheads. She was pre-deceased by her parents; husband Harold J. "Hook" Wieland on December 27,1986; her son Dennis "Denny" J. Wieland on August 6, 2019; siblings: Richard "Blackie", Delores, Vera, Mae, Corrine, William, Woodrow "Shorty", Alvin, and Robert. Mrs. Wieland is survived by her son and daughters-in-law: Tim and Jan Wieland, Susan (Mrs. Dennis J.) Wieland; grandsons: Chris and Lisa Wieland, Brandon and Karin Wieland; great grandchildren: Brett and Arianna Wieland, Matthew Wieland and Danielle Vitulli, Jacob, Nicholas, Aubrie, Drew Wieland; great-great grandchildren: Nellie, Adalynn, and Owen Wieland; and many other extended family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Gravesite service on Tuesday November 9, 2021 at 1PM in Maple Grove Cemetery at 715 West Broad Street Horseheads, NY. In Lieu of Flowers; the family Respectfully Requests to instead make a memorial donation to The First Presbyterian Church of Horseheads, Bethany Village Activity Department, or a charity of one's choice. Gladis' family wishes to thank the Bethany Manor Staff for their love and care for Gladis over the years. A very special thanks goes to Amanda Palmer for being such a good friend and always going the extra step to help her. She was a very special lady in many ways and will be missed tremendously.
