Obituary of Joseph F. Sinkewicz Sr.

Joseph F. Sinkewicz Sr. of Horseheads, NY passed away November 19, 2023 at the age of 93. Joe was born in Scranton, PA the son of the late Joseph and Mary Sienkiewicz. Joe was a Veteran of the Korean War serving his country with The US Navy. He graduated from Scranton University cum laude and Syracuse University with a Master of Business Administration degree. His career spanned 39 years with Corning, Inc. beginning in Wellsboro, PA where he was Plant Controller, and retiring in 1995 as Precious Metals Administrator in Corning, NY. Retirement years brought much pleasure from travel, downhill skiing until the age of 82, and books, as he was always a voracious reader. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Lucinda Lavris Sinkewicz; son, Robert J. Sienkiewicz of Buffalo, NY; and daughter, Linda A. Sinkewicz (husband, Douglas Gillen) of San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his mother and father, Joe was pre-deceased by first wife Delores Bator Sinkewicz whom he devotedly attended to through her diminishing health while guiding his three children to adulthood and was also predeceased by his son Joseph F. Sinkewicz Jr. Whether with family, friends, or colleagues, Joe lived the Jesuit creed, cura personalis, or care for the entire person. He believed in making the world a better place by helping individuals to reach their full potential. He is remembered in the hearts of everyone who experienced his kindness, goodness, and wisdom. He was a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads. Joe's wish that he be cremated and that there be no calling hours. It was also his wish that there be a prayer service for family and friends which was held November 22, 2023 at the Lynch Funeral Home in Horseheads, NY with Father Christopher E. Linsler officiating. Interment and graveside prayers will take place in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, NY at the convenience of the family .
