Obituary of Betty M. Nelson-Carpenter

NELSON-CARPENTER Betty M. Age 88 formerly of Horseheads , NY passed away on Saturday January 28 , 2012 in Hickory , NC. Betty was married to John E. Nelson Jr. until his death on August 17 , 1973. Betty served as the Principal's Secretary at Horseheads High School for over 23 years retiring in 1991 . She was an active member of both The New York State and The National Association of Education Office Professionals attaining the distinction of Certified Education Employee. Betty and John raised 6 children as devout members of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads , NY . Betty is survived by her second husband , T. Jack Carpenter , whom she married in 1990. They enjoyed active memberships in several Antique Car Clubs , traveling and acquiring many new friends here and abroad. Betty is also survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Cheryl (Richard) Snider of Upper Marlboro , MD ; Glenna Andree (Benny) Jones of Tavares , Florida ; Margaret C. (John) Rohner of South English , IA ; sons and daughters-in-law : John E. Nelson III of Ashburn , VA ; Philip H. (Juliann) Nelson of Victor , NY ; Joseph M. (Suzanne) Nelson of Rockford , TN ; step-daughters and son-in-law : Jane Carpenter of Gulfport , Florida ; Susan (Carl) Mangone of Golden , CO ; step-son and wife : Thomas E. Carpenter and Miriam Naples of Lewis Center , Ohio. Also surviving are nine grandchildren , five step grandchildren , and eleven great grandchildren ; sister-in-law : Vernita Munn of Rock Hill , SC. Betty was pre-deceased by her parents and four brothers ; Carl , Jimmy ,and Basil Munn of South Carolina and Matthew of North Carolina . There will be no prior calling hours . A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Betty's Life will be held at St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 West Broad Street Horseheads , NY on Monday February 6, 2012 at 10 AM . Betty will be laid to rest next to her first husband John in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery in Horseheads , NY. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Our Mother Church or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 West BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY .
