Obituary of Rita M. O'Rourke
O'ROURKE Rita M. Age 79 of Elmira Heights, NY passed away on Wednesday August 27, 2014 2 weeks prior to her 80th Birthday. Rita was born in Big Flats, NY on September 10, 1934 the daughter of the late Leo and Grace Malburg Murray. She retired from the Elmira Heights School District. She married her husband Andrew D. O'Rourke on August 28, 1954 and he pre-deceased her on February 9, 1969. Mrs. O'Rourke belonged to Mother's Club and Right to Life, she was a Girl Scout Leader and a Softball Coach. She was also pre-deceased by her daughter Kimberly O. McNaney on July 22,1999; and sisters: Alberta Sweet and Lorraine Bowers. She was the rock and foundation of this family of Irish Girls. Rita is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Susan O'Rourke and fiancé Charles Gee of Elmira Heights, NY; Jacqueline and Michael Cruttenden of Horseheads, NY; Amy and James Warner of Big Flats, NY; Melissa O'Rourke of Elmira, NY; granddaughters: Kari Lynn, Kelly (Jacquiese); Miranda (Adrian); Mallory (Seth); Cortney (Keane); Morgan, Marissa, and Lauren; great granddaughters: Ava, Brynn, Jayla, Jordyn; sister: Yvonne Loop of Endicott, NY; former son-in-law: Joseph McNaney of Big Flats, NY; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of caring friends. Relatives and Friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Sunday August 31, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8PM. Mrs. O'Rourke's Funeral Services will be held on Monday September 1, 2014 at 11 AM at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Belknap officiating. Internment in Rural Home Cemetery in Big Flats, NY. The family would like to thank the entire Nursing Staff at 4C at the Arnot Ogden Hospital, especially: Jen, Amanda and Dixie.
