Obituary of Jane Arlene Prislopski

PRISLOPSKI , JANE ARLENE PENDERGAST "PEACHES" Age 88 of Horseheads , Ny passed away on Monday December 1 , 2014 after an extended illness. Jane was born April 10 , 1926 in Elmira , NY the daughter of the late James and Jane Howard Pendergast and the youngest of four children. She attended and graduated from Southside High School in Elmira , NY. Jane continued her education at Elmira College earning a Bachelor's of Science and a Master's Degree in Chemistry and Education. She married her husband John Prislopski on March 5 , 1946 at St. Patrick's Church in Elmira , NY . Jane taught Chemistry at Southside High School and Horseheads High School. He students affectionately called her "Peaches" . During her career , she was named "Teacher of The Year" and received a Steuben Crystal Apple. The yearbook at Horseheads High School was also dedicated to Jane . Jane retired after 20 years of teaching in 1981. In her retirement , Jane enjoyed her time tending to her garden , playing bridge , and traveling with her husband John . They took many cruises around the world. Jane was pre-deceased by her husband John on September 21 , 2002 , her grandson Ivan Zimmerman on December 3 , 2005 as well as her brothers Raymond Pendergast and Howard Pendergast. Jane is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law ; Linda Prislopski Short and James Micheal Short of Palm Bay , Florida , Dr. Mary Prislopski Zimmerman and Dr. I. Harold Zimmerman of Pleasanton , CA , Deborah Prislopski Sonnenschmidt and Fritz Sonnenschmidt C.M.C. of Rhinebeck , NY , and Susan Prislopski Dickens and Larry Dickens of South Bristol , , New York ; grandchildren ; James John & Penny Short of Endwell , NY , Charles Michael Short of Nashua , NH , Lt. Colonel Jennifer Lynette and Frank Trinkle of Warner Robbins , GA , Mary Heather & Eric Baumes of Rexford , NY , Hillary Albro Ferrante of Milton , MA , and Lindsey Dickens of Fairport , NY ; great grandchildren : Nicholas Short of Endwell , NY , Nathaniel Short of Endwell , NY , Emily Baumes of Rexford , NY , Taylor Ferrante of Milton , MA and Kia Trinkle of Warner Robbins , GA ; sister : Mary Pendergast Robb of Rochester , NY ; several nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends and caregivers . Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Sunday December 7 , 2014 from 2-4 PM . Mrs. Prislopski's Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday December 8 , 2014 at 10:30 AM. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband John and her grandson Ivan Zimmeran in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads , NY .
