Obituary of Robert A. Stickler

STICKLER , ROBERT A. Age 85 of Horseheads , NY passed away on Tuesday December 23 , 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born February 25 , 1929 in Elmira , NY the son of the late Frank and Dorothy Lewis Stickler . He was a Veteran of The Korean War serving his country with The U.S. Army and was awarded The Purple Heart and The Korean War Service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars . Bob was a member of Bentley-Trumble American Legion Post # 442 in Horseheads , NY . Bob married his wife , Mary Ann Besley Stickler , on March 10 , 1952 and they would have celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary on March 10 , 2015. Mr. Stickler retired from Thatcher Glass Company in Elmira Heights , NY as a Batching Supervisor and was a member of The International Glass Blowers Union Local # 1000. In addition to his parents , Bob was pre-deceased by his daughter Susan Stickler May 14 , 2001 and by his twin sister Alice Stickler Weiskopff , his sister Elizabeth (Betty) Kelly , his brothers Frank Stickler Jr. , John R. Stickler , David Lewis , William Lewis , and George Lewis , and Claude Stickler . Mr. Stickler loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them especially his grandchildren. Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife Mary Ann Besley Stickler ; sons and daughters-in-law : Robert & Debra Shepard Stickler of Jupiter , Florida and Thomas & Jennifer Pierri Stickler of Horseheads , NY ; grandchildren : Erica Stickler and Tyler Stickler both of Horseheads , NY , and Heather Stickler of St. Petersburg , Florida ; sisters : Dorothy Walker Marvin of Williamson , NY , Leona Vester of Elmira , NY , and Mary Fatula of Orlando , Florida ; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ed & Beverly Besley Jr. of Odessa , NY , Harold & Kathy Besley of Ocala , Florida , and George & Patricia Besley of Beaver Dams , NY ; several nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on SATURDAY DECEMBER 27 , 2014 from 2-4 PM . Mr. Stickler's Funeral and Committal Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours with the Rev. Lee Love officiating . Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Stickler at the Funeral Home . Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads , NY at the convenience of the family.
