Obituary of Alfred G. Registro
REGISTRO , ALFRED G. Age 99 formerly of Big Flats, NY passed away on Saturday May 9 , 2015. Al was born on January 24, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Stephen and Rose Garbarini Registro. He was a Personnel Manager at AnnPage in Horseheads, NY. Al was a Veteran of WWII serving his country with the U.S. Navy, he led troops at Utah Beach on the Invasion of Normandy. He attended Long Island University on a Baseball and Boxing scholarship. He played Semi-Pro Baseball with Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, and Cool Papa Bell, and was a Scout for the Kansas City Royals, Cleveland Indians and St. Louis Cardinals. Al married his wife Delphine E. Drozewski Registro on September 27, 1947 and she pre-deceased him on July 20, 1997 after 49 years of marriage. He was also pre-deceased by his brothers: Joseph Registro and Robert Registro; sister: Catherine Haubeil and by his nephew Stephen Sadler. Al was an instrumental part of the All Sports Banquet, and the Chemung County Sports Hall of Fame, he was an Umpire Emeritus and umpired baseball until he was 92. Al was honored by the Town of Big Flats by naming Registro Way in his Honor. He was also a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, NY.His greatest joy and love in his life was his family. Al is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Rosemary and Paul Sullivan of Elmira, NY and Roberta and Earl "Duke" Campbell of Elmira, NY; grandson Jason Benjamin of Horseheads, NY; great granddaughter: Trisha Benjamin; sister Eleanor Sadler of NJ; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Thursday May 14 , 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM . Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday May 15 , 2015 at 10 AM at St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 West Broad Street Horseheads , NY . Al will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Delphine in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Registro. A special Thanks to Julie Allard and all of Al's caregivers. In lieu of flowers please remember Al through memorials to The Big Flats Little League .
