Obituary of Walter S. Dobek

DOBEK , WALTER S. Age 86 of Horseheads , NY passed away on Friday March 1 , 2013 after an extended illness. Walter was born May 5 , 1926 in Elmira , NY the son of the late Valentine and Louise Kukulka Dobek . He was a Korean War Veteran serving his country with the U.S. Army. Walter married her wife , Teresa M. Straszynski Dobek , on September 5 , 1953 and she pre-deceased him on October 6 , 1996 . He was a retired employee of American Bridge in Elmira Heights , NY . Walter was a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads where he served as an usher and helped with Bingo . He was a member of Horseheads Council # 6158 Knights of Columbus having attained his Fourth Degree . Walter was pre-deceased by his brothers and sisters Louis Dobek , Genevieve Wholeben , and Julia Dobek as well as his sister-in-law Pauline Dobek and his brother-in-law Bernard Wholeben. Walter is survived by his loving and devoted children : Kathleen & Steven Willis of Woodlawn , Illinois , Thomas & Paulita Dobek of Rome , NY , John & Tammy Dobek of Marianna , Florida , Daniel Dobek of Horseheads , NY , Barbara Dobek of Horseheads , NY , Maureen Dobek of Horseheads , NY , and Michael & Toni Dobek of High Point , NC ; grandchildren : Shannon Willis , Shaun Willis , Amanda Dobek , Samantha Dobek , Ashley Dobek , Lori Beth Dobek , Alexander and Emily Dobek ; sister : Sophia (Mrs. Michael) Hawley of Elmira , NY ; brother : Stanley Dobek of Horseheads , NY ; several nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends . Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Monday March 4 , 2013 from 5-8 PM . Horseheads Council # 6158 Knights of Columbus will conduct a Memorial Service for their departed brother Walter at the Funeral Home at 8 PM . A Prayer Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday March 5 , 2013 at 9 AM . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday March 5 , 2013 at 10 AM at St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, NY . Walter will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Teresa in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery in Horseheads , NY.
