Obituary of LaVerne R. Spencer

SPENCER , LaVERNE R. Age 76 of Elmira Heights , NY passed away on Sunday December 20 , 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. LaVerne was born July 19 , 1939 in Elmira , NY the son of the late Clairmont "Pete" and Agnes Rice Spencer. He was a Veteran serving his country with The U. S. Army from 1959 to 1962. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Alberta on January 26 , 1993. He married his wife Beverly M. Owen Spencer on March 25 , 1995. LaVerne was a retired employee of Purolator Products in Elmira Heights , NY . He was an avid New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan , an Elmira College Hockey fan and member of The Booster Club , a Civil War enthusiast , an antique collector especially clocks , and a member of The Elmira Heights Historical Society. LaVerne was a devoted husband , father , and grandfather who loved and cherished his family and friends. LaVerne is survived by his loving wife Beverly M. Owen Spencer ; his children : Betsy & Jeff Nalbach and their children Tyler and Josh Nalbach of Horseheads , NY ; Pamela & Lucas Mather and their children Alex , Isabelle , Zane , and Lucas of Statesboro, GA ; Curtis and Marsha Card of Columbia Crossroads , PA and their children Trina & Shane Congdon and Kendra (Zack) Card ; Cindy & Keith McDonald of Elmira Heights , NY and their children Shawn & Amy McDonald and Nicole (B.T.) McDonald ; Donald & Joyce Card of Bethel Park , PA and their children Jessica & Chris Bailey , Aaron (Tira) Card , and David Card ; Julia & Fred Courtright of Lawrenceville , PA and their children Jenifer (Ryan) Simons and Haley Simons ;Mary Rae & John Bahantka of Elmira Heights , NY and their children Chelsea , Jake , and Samantha Bahantka ; seven great grandchildren ; several nieces , nephews , cousins , extended family members , and a host of caring friends . Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Wednesday December 23 , 2015 from 4-7 PM. LaVerne's Funeral and Committal Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours with Rev. Jeremy Spencer officiating . Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Spencer on Thursday December 24 , 2015 at 10 AM at Woodlawn National Cemetery 1825 Davis Street Elmira , NY. The Family will provide their own flowers and would greatly appreciate that memorials be directed to The Elmira Heights Historical Society in LaVerne's Memory.
