Obituary of Mary Lou Tryon
TRYON MARY LOU HAMM passed away on Friday March 4, 2016 after a prolonged illness. Born January 14, 1932 to Melissa Rose Johnson and Ernest Eugene Hamm in Elmira, NY, Mary Lou graduated from SHS and Elmira College. She was an employee of Westinghouse prior to her marriage to her best friend and the love of her life, William A. Tryon, II, on June 27, 1953. Mary Lou was very active in the antique business, as a member of the Opera House in Hammondsport, NY, the Country Sampler Antiques in Sylvania, PA, and as the owner of a household and estate appraisal business. In addition, she was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and the Junior League of Greater Elmira-Corning. Mary Lou leaves a devoted family who is grateful to Nana for her fun-loving spirit, her encouragement to travel, her love and support: husband - William Augustus Tryon, II; daughter - Susan Tryon (James) Rogers of Elmira; sons - William Augustus Tryon, III of Los Angeles, CA, and Ronald James (Sally) Tryon of Columbia, SC; grandchildren - Gretchen Aynsley Rogers, Meredith Tryon (Alex Jenney) Rogers, William Augustus "Ty" (Hanna) Tryon, IV, John Theys "JT" Tryon, Trayer "Tray" Clancy Tryon, Georgia Lee Tryon, Sarah Catherine "Kitty" Tryon and James Hudson Tryon; great-grandchildren - William Augustus "Tyson" Tryon,V, James Alexander Jenney, and Augusta Baptiste Jenney; brother-in-law - Brooks Braender; nieces - Julie Bennet and Holly Hellewell; and cousins - Dick (Mary Ellen) Johnson, Allan (Janet) Frisk, and Maysie Goodreau. She was pre-deceased by her parents and her sister, Nancy Braender. Mary Lou encouraged her family always to reach for the brass ring on the carousel ride of life. Heartfelt thanks go to Ms. Jessica Balmer for the exceptional and loving care she provided. It was Mary Lou's request that a private family memorial service take place at a later time.
