Obituary of Daniel F. O'Brien

O'BRIEN , DANIEL F. age 67 of Big Flats , NY passed away very unexpectedly on Saturday January 7, 2017 at home . Danny was born October 28 , 1949 in Brooklyn , NY the son of the late William B. and Catherine C. Wikelaitis O' Brien . His family moved to Horseheads , NY in 1965 when his father worked for Ann Page . Danny was a graduate of Horseheads High School Class of 1968. Danny married his wife , Donna Marie Raville O'Brien, on May 27 , 1972. He joined The Chemung County Sheriff's Department and retired as Senior Investigator . Dan was a graduate of The F.B.I. National Academy . Danny was a member of The U.S. Army Reserves for many years. He was a long-time Town Board Member for The Town of Big Flats and volunteer at Big Flats Community Days. Dan went on to become a Chemung County Legislator serving District 2 . He was also a member of The Corning Country Club for many years. He was Head of Security at the Arnot Mall before he decided to leave and start his own business. Danny owned and operated O'Brien Investigations and was retired from The Chemung County Sheriff's Department. Danny was pre-deceased by his father William B. O'Brien on September 4 , 1966 , his mother Catherine C. Wikelaitis O'Brien on January 18 , 1998 , his brother William B. O'Brien Jr. on August 19, 2000, his nephew William B. O'Brien III on June 7 , 1992 , his mother-in-law and fathers-in-law Joyce Dumas Raville Panzarella on October 29 , 1983 , Edward Raville in August 1992 , and Frank G. Panzarella on September 2 , 1995. Danny was an avid New York Giants Football Fan ! He was a former communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church and presently attended His Tabernacle Church in Horseheads , NY . Danny loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them especially his grandchildren Paige and Jacob. Danny is survived by his wife Donna M. O'Brien ; daughters and son-in-law : Shannon L. O'Brien McInerney & Patrick McInerney of Erin , NY and Jennifer A. O'Brien and fiancé Joan Rule of Rochester , NY ; grandchildren : Paige McInerney and Jacob McInerney of Erin , NY sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law ; Joy & Mark Barney of Malone , NY , Lisa Panzarella & fiancé Kevin McCarthy of Horseheads , NY , and Michael Raville of Malone , NY ; step-mother-in-law : Nancy Raville of Malone , NY ; sister-in-law : Sharon E. Wood O'Brien Maloney & Dan Maloney of North Carolina ; several nieces , nephews , grand nieces , grand nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends . Relatives and friends are invited call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Wednesday January 11 , 2017 from 4-8 PM . Danny's Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday January 12 , 2017 at 11 AM with Pastor Michael Spencer officiating. Danny will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, NY.
