Obituary of Marguerite M. Gedatus

Marguerite Gedatus, age 92 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017. Marguerite was born on November 22, 1924 in Jarvis, Ontario, Canada the daughter of the late Christopher and Florence Devine Montague. Marguerite married her husband Charles L. "Chuck" Gedatus on October 10, 1946. They were married for 63 years until he pre-deceased her on November 7, 2009. Marguerite attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Hamilton, Ontario and was a retired Registered Nurse from St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY. Marguerite was an avid golfer and volunteered at the LPGA for many years. She was a member of the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, a Hospice volunteer, and very active at St. Mary Our Mother Church helping with the Altar and Rosary Society. Marguerite was known as the "Neighborhood Nurse" on Burkeshire Drive in Horseheads, NY. She loved her family and friends and treasured the time she spent with them. Marguerite and Chuck loved watching their grandchildren and great grandchildren growing up and supported them in everything they have done. Marguerite is survived by her loving and devoted daughters and sons-in-law: Mary Susan and Joseph Skelly of Breesport, NY , Bridget Kathleen and Joseph Tierno of Honeoye Falls, NY, and Marion and Rev. Bryan Bedell of Honeoye Falls, NY; beloved grandchildren: Beth and Andrew Kempf, Jennifer and Todd Haran, Joseph and Leslie Skelly, Emily and Gene Walsh, and Alan Overslaugh; cherished great grandchildren: Katie, David, and Janie Kempf, Jonas and Regan Haran, and Joseph and Jack Skelly, Lyla Walsh , and Josephine Overslaugh; sisters and brother-in-law: Marion and Dick Gallant and Helen Bokros and sisters-in-law Monica Montague and Bernadette Montague all of Canada; sister-in-law: Pat Gedatus of Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME, 318 WEST BROAD STREET, HORSEHEADS, NY on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 9 - 11:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following calling hours at 12 Noon at St. Mary Our Mary Church in Horseheads, NY. Marguerite will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Charles.
