Obituary of Eugene B. Harrison
HARRISON, EUGENE B. Age 84 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Thursday July 27, 2017. Born in Elmira, NY on June 21, 1933, the son of the late John Packer and Mary Constance Hemerka Harrison. A Korean War Veteran, he served his country with the U.S. Army. He married his beloved wife Beverly Decker Harrison on July 6, 1957, she pre-deceased him in 2000; they were married 43 years. He worked as Typesetter and Photographer for Elmira Quality Printers before retirement. A communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church and an usher, he was also a grand knight with the Knights of Columbus. His deep faith was encouraged through his long involvement in Cursillo and also led him to be a contemplative as a third order Carmelite. A supporter of the Arts through the Clemens Center, he understood that Music and the Arts improved our sense of community. A member of the Retired Lions as Club Treasurer, he believed in service as a way of giving back. Eugene also was a swimming official for over 30 years. He was pre-deceased by his son Bruce Alan Harrison in 1960, and brother Edwin Harrison in 1999. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Nancy and Reverend Mr. Thomas J. Ruda of Watkins Glen, NY; Kathleen and Reverend David J. Cook of Endicott, NY; Susan and Rolando DaSilva of Southbury, CT; grandchildren: Kathryn Ruda, James (Rebecca) Ruda, Arlene (Dylan) Stoecker, April Ruda, Karen Cook, Ian Cook, Colin Cook, Sarah(Cody) Meadows, Michelle (Jai) Ayala, Stephen Jones, Brian Jones; great granddaughters: Rowan Cook, Sage Ruda, and Maya Ayala; brother and sisters-in-law: John P. and Carolyn Harrison; JoAnne Decker, and Louise (Mrs. Edwin) Harrison; several nieces, nephews, and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Friday August 4, 2017 from 5-7PM. A Prayer service will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday August 5, 2017 at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, NY with the Rev Rick Farrell Officiating. Burial in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Harrison. In Lieu of Flowers memorials can be made to the Clemens Center or to a charity of one's choice.
