Obituary of Merle E. Curkendall

CURKENDALL MERLE E. "PETE" Age 82 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Friday April 6, 2018 at Bethany Manor. Merle was born on January 3, 1936 in Newark Valley, NY the son of the late Merle and Lottie Hamilton Curkendall. Mr. Curkendall was a Veteran of the Korean War serving his country with the U.S. Marine Corps. Pete married his wife Purla Jean Sinn Curkendall and she pre-deceased him on November 15, 2006. He owned a landscaping and tree surgeon service in Elmira for many years. He was also pre-deceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Chuck and Annabelle Curkendall; Dick and Carol Curkendall and Bill and Jean Curkendall, as well as his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ginny and George LaDue , Albert Longhouse , Gerald Sinn , and Grant "Bud" Hamilton. Pete was an avid Penn State Football Fan. Pete loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Mr. Curkendall is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Perry Curkendall of West Palm Beach, FL; former daughter-in-law: Laurie Grosvenor; Guy and Tami Curkendall of Elmira, NY, and Peter and Renee Curkendall of Liverpool, NY; daughters and son-in-law: Brenda and Larry Munger of Liverpool, NY, and Sandy; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law: Marlene and Pete Velletri of Rochester, NY; sister-in-law: Barbara (Mrs. Gerald) Sinn of Ithaca, NY; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of caring friends. The Family would like to thank the entire staff of Bethany Manor for the compassionate and loving care given to Pete during his stay. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Sunday April 8, 2018 from 2-4 PM. Mr. Curkendall's Funeral Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 4PM with the Rev. John Ford Officiating. Pete will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Purla Jean in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, NY on Monday April 9, 2018 at 10 AM where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Curkendall.
