Obituary of Jerome T. Kerwan

JEROME T. KERWAN age 87 of Elmira Heights, NY passed away on Thursday March 29, 2018 . Jerome was born June 17, 1930 in Elmira , NY the son of the late Edward and Marion Crowley Kerwan. He was also pre-deceased by his son Joseph L. Kerwan on December 27, 1988 as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Jerome was a Korean War Veteran serving his country with The U.S. ARMY attaining the rank of Sergeant. He married his wife, Jean Knox Kerwan, on August 27, 1955 and they would have celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary on August 27 , 2018. Jerry was a retired Corrections Officer at NYS Department of Corrections in Elmira, NY. He was a communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Elmira Heights, NY, a member of Clarence R. Oliver American Legion Post # 154, The Catholic War Veterans, and The Montour Moose Lodge. Jerry went to a one room school house in Horseheads. He absorbed so much information, they passed him from 2nd grade to 4th grade. He would often tell people he didn't have a 3rd grade education even though he went on to Oswego College prior to entering The U.S. ARMY. Jerry loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Jerry is survived by his loving and devoted wife Jean Knox Kerwan ; beloved daughters and sons-in-law : Susan & William Berg of Elmira Heights, NY and Karen & Patrick Adami of Elmira, NY; cherished grandchildren : Jason (Debora) Berg of Boston, MA and Jenna Berg of Elmira Heights, NY, Jennifer Hamilton of TN, Allison Betser of TN, Julie Colton of PA, and Joanne Grismore of PA ; six great grandchildren ; brother and sister-in-law : Michael & Marilyn Kerwan of CA ; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law : Marion & Joseph Agan of Elmira Heights, NY, Charlotte McCracken of Horseheads, NY, and Morris H. Knox & Carolyn Fedele of Florida ; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Friday April 20, 2018 from 4-7 PM. Mr. Kerwan's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday April 21, 2018 at 9 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church 130 Oakwood Avenue Elmira Heights, NY. Jerry will be laid to rest in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery in Horseheads, NY where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Kerwan.
