Obituary of Kathleen Vreeland

KATHLEEN "KAY" VREELAND Age 101 of Elmira, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday April 15,2018 at The Chemung County Nursing Facility. Kay was born March 9,1917 in Rochester, NY the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Handley Mercer. She attended William & Smith College in Geneva, NY and graduated from Rochester Business Institute. Kay married her husband, John R. Vreeland, on August 30, 1940 and he pre-deceased her on August 3, 1971. She retired as a secretary at The Chemung County Solid Waste District in Elmira with over 20 years of dedicated service. Kay was a member and officer of The NYS Secretary's Association as well as The Soaring Eagles Rotary-Anns. She was a longtime member of The North Presbyterian Church in Elmira, NY. Kay loved her family and friends and treasured the time she spent with them especially at Keuka Lake. Kay is survived by her daughters Jacqueline A. Dulik of Copiague, NY and Valerie Vreeland PHD. of Berkley, CA ; six grandchildren and their spouses and eight great grandchildren ; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends including Joyce Grose. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Sunday April 22, 2018 from 2-5 PM. Mrs. Vreeland's Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday April 23, 2018 at 10 AM. Kay will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband John in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, NY .
