Obituary of Ned John Marrow

NED JOHN MARROW Age 95 a longtime resident of Big Flats , NY passed away on Wednesday June 6, 2018 . Ned was born March 14 , 1923 in Galeton , PA the son of the late Carmen and Mary Malaich Mauro . He was Veteran of World War II serving his country with The U.S. NAVY . Ned married his wife Evelyn A. Rudin Marrow on June 19 , 1948 and she pre-deceased him on December 23 , 2006 . He was also pre-deceased by his infant son John Joseph Marrow on December 18 , 1951. Ned began his lifelong railroad career on the Buffalo & Susquehanna Railroad as a brakeman and had a distinguished career . Ned retired after a 40 year railroad career the included the New York Central , Penn Central , and ultimately retired as an engineer for Conrail in Corning , NY and was a member of the Retired Railroaders. In retirement Ned and Evelyn traveled extensively and when home he enjoyed gardening and puttering in his workshop . Ned was active in Naval reunions and stayed in contact with his fellow shipmates of the USS Barr. He was also a volunteer conductor aboard The Tioga Central Railroad and was humbled when in 2008 a passenger car was named for him for his dedicated volunteer service. On Veterans Day 2015 Ned was fortunate enough to enjoy an Honor Flight trip with his son-in-law to The WW II Memorial in Washington , DC . Mr. Marrow is survived by his loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law : Christine & Myron Frost of Big Flats , NY ; granddaughter : Kathryn Colwell Yock & Joe Yock of Huntersville, NC ; great grandson : Bracken Yock of Huntersville , NC ; step-grandson: Kyle Frost of Charlotte , NC ; sister: Rose Libby of Olean , NY ; several nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends . Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Monday June 11 , 2018 from 3-5 PM. Mr. Marrow's Funeral Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 5 PM where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Marrow. Ned will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Evelyn in West Hill Cemetery in Galeton , PA at the convenience of the family.
