Obituary of Harold DeCamp

Harold "Howie" DeCamp Jr. age 91of Big Flats, NY passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Howie was born April 30, 1927 in Tyrone, NY the son of the late Harold and Muzetta McNeil DeCamp. In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law Eleanor (Bob) Dykes and Shirley (Charles) Malloy, brother Leon DeCamp, and son-in-law Scott Andrews. Howie is survived by his wife Martha Jane McMurry DeCamp of 64 years; his children Belinda(Michael) Valet of Virginia Beach, VA, Tina Burt of Elmira, NY, and Annette(Robert) Chamberlain of Owego, NY; sister-in-law Naomi DeCamp; grandchildren; Chris(Kim) Burt, Ben(Katie)Valet, Deanna Burt(Eric Karius), Erica(Morgan) McKee, Emily Valet(Devon Anderson), Trevor(Mary Theresa) Andrews; 9 great grandchildren; (Parker, Isabelle & Cooper Burt; William & Oliver Valet; Jaysen McKee; Kendyl Karius; Collin Anderson; Owen Andrews; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Harold was a U.S. Marine Corp. Veteran serving his country during the Korean War. Howie married his wife Martha Jane McMurry on November 20,1952. He retired from Corning, Inc. as a Facilities Services Supervisor at Sullivan Park in Painted Post after 38 years of service and was recognized with 70 years of service as employee/retiree in 2018. He was a dedicated member of the Big Flats Volunteer Fire Department for 51 years and served in many capacities including Chairman of Fire Commissioners. He was active in Central Christian Church served as an Elder and Chairman of the Board. Harold enjoyed RV'ing with friends and family and in his retirement years wintered in Kissimmee, Florida. A special thanks of gratitude to his home health aides Angela, Jennifer, Liz and Ceclia for their compassion and care. Relatives and Friends are invited to call at the Lynch Funeral Home 318 West Broad Street Horseheads, NY on Sunday July 22, 2018 from 1:00?3:00 PM and 5:00-7:00 PM. Harold's Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Susan Husted. Burial will be in Rural Home Cemetery in Big Flats, NY where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. DeCamp .
