Obituary of Rilla G. Jenkins

JENKINS , RILLA G. Age 85 of Horseheads , NY passed away on Sunday November 10 , 2013 at Elcor Health Services in Horseheads , NY . Rilla was born February 27 , 1928 in Wellsville , NY the daughter of the late Victor and Laura Corey Graves . She was a graduate of The Arnot Ogden School of Nursing Class of 1949. Rilla married her husband Robert W. Jenkins in 1949 and he pre-deceased her on December 9 , 2000 after 51 years of marriage. Mrs. Jenkins is survived by her children : Robert J. & Nancy Smith Jenkins of Syracuse , NY , Brian V. & Patricia Davoust Jenkins of Warrenville , Illinois , and Marybeth & Edward L. Gronski of Horseheads , NY; granddaughters : Rachel & Travis Pape , Madeline Jenkins , and Celeste Jenkins all of Warrenville , Illinois ; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law : Doris & John Lyon of Binghamton , NY and Marion Jenkins of Kirkwood , NY ; several nieces , nephews , cousin David & Rose Munkes with their children Sophie and Brian of Wellsville, NY , and a host of caring friends. She worked for Dr. Milton Goldsmith after graduation before starting her family. Rilla was a retired Registered Nurse having worked for Dr. Tillou , Dr. Canter , Dr. Good , Dr. Borja and Dr. Vaughan in Elmira , NY. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Horseheads , NY. Rilla will be remembered for her baking , quilting , and embroidery . Family and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Wednesday November 13 , 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM . A Celebration of Mrs. Jenkins' Life will be held on Thursday November 14 , 2013 at 11 AM at The First United Methodist Church 1034 West Broad Street Horseheads , NY . The Rev. Rhonda Kouterick will officiate . A luncheon will follow her service at church . Rilla will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Robert in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads , NY on Friday November 15 , 2013 at 11 AM . The family will provide their own flowers and those wishing may remember Rilla through memorial donations to the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads 1034 West Broad Street Horseheads , NY 14845. The family would like to thank Marlene Ryan for her care of Mom during the past three years. The family would also like to thank Cindy Ellis , Dr. Brent Arnold and The Women of The First United Methodist Church for their visits and cards to Mom. They would also like to thank the staff of Elcor for their care of their Mom and her family during the past three years.
