Obituary of Robert W. Erickson

ERICKSON , ROBERT W . Age 83 of Elmira Heights , NY passed away on Sunday November 17 , 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born October 5 , 1930 in Elmira Heights , NY the son of the late William L. and Margaret Vandermark Erickson . Bob was also pre-deceased by three brothers Ralph , Lawrence , and Roland Erickson . Bob was a Veteran of The Korean War serving his country with The U.S. Army and was award The Sharp Shooter's Medal , Good Conduct Medal , and The Overseas' Occupation Forces Medal . He married his wife , Marlene A. Phillips Erickson , on May 2 , 1959 at North Presbyterian Church in Elmira , NY and they recently celebrated their 54th Wedding Anniversary. Bob retired from American Bridge / U S Steel in Elmira Heights , NY in October 1983. He was a member , Past Commander in 1961, and member of The Military Honor Guard and Color Guard of Clarence R. Oliver American Legion Post # 154 in Elmira Heights , NY . Bob was also Past Commander of The Chemung County American Legion in 1964 . He was a member of North Presbyterian Church in Elmira , NY . Bob loved the time he spent with his family , friends , and his canine friend Buddy . Mr. Erickson is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years Marlene A. Phillips Erickson ; sons : Robert P. Erickson of Elmira Heights , NY and Richard J. Erickson of Elmira , NY ; grandson : Eric D. Erickson of Elmira , NY ; sisters and brother-in-law : Lorraine Donald of Horseheads , NY and Joan & Steve Platko of Stonington , CT ; brothers and sisters-in-law : Bill & Alice Erickson of Elmira , NY and Gary & Carol Erickson of Big Flats , NY ; brother-in-law : Joseph T. Phillips of Vernon , NJ ; several nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends . At Bob's request there will be no prior calling hours . Gravside Commital Services with Full Military Honors will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads , NY at the convenience of the family. Arangements are entrusted to the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY.
