Obituary of Margaret B. Kowalski

Margaret B. "Peg" Kowalski Age 97 of Horseheads, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. Margaret was born on September 22, 1923 in Starkey, NY, the daughter of the late Merle and Helen Gilbert Baker. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter Kowalski and will be reunited with the true love of her life. Margaret will never be forgotten and forever loved by her family. She is survived by her son, Walter M. Kowalski and granddaughter, Christina Kowalski; Daughter Kathleen Miller and husband Wayne, granddaughter Jessica Miller and two great grandchildren Justin and Joshua of Hinesville, GA; Siblings, Donna and Bruce Sprague of Horseheads, NY, Merle "Butch" and Bonnie Baker of Odessa, NY, Kenneth and Diana Baker of Horseheads, NY, and sister-in-law Jean Baker of Horseheads, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Peg was pre-deceased by her siblings Merial Allen, Florence Tenny, Edith Gail Burdick, and Albert Baker Sr. Margaret shared many wonderful stories of her work at Eldridge Park and was very proud of her work during WWII at the Horseheads Holding Point. She was a dedicated member and volunteer of the following organizations: Elmira Clemens Center for over 35 years known as a greeter in the lobby; Elmira Heights Legion for over 47 years; and Horseheads United Methodist Church. She was an avid bowler and athlete in Elmira High School earning varsity letters her last three years of high school. Thank you to all who took care of Margaret at Bethany Manor. Margaret will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, NY. Memorial services will be held at a future date, Spring 2021.
