Arthur was a long-time friend to Kathy and me. He was a colleague at the Horseheads Middle School and was a fellow official with The Elmira Track & Field Officials for over 40 years. Art was also a long-time member of the Greenside Up Investment Club. I will always miss the banter and humorous moments we had together. Keith Willes

Mr. Smith was my SS teacher at Junior High West. Thanks to him, I know the Preamble...even though I have never applied it towards my career :). A joke he used to play on our impressionable minds was when a snow storm was coming and we were all hoping school would let out early. I had his class about half way through the day and when we would ask him if he thought school might let out early, he would respond that there's only a half day of school. Little did we realize, until he told us at the end of class, that there's only a half day of school left! I became wiser thanks to him. My condolences to the Smith family and may you embrace the wonderful memories you have of him. Many Blessings To You All

Art was a kind and dedicated man that understood the value of volunteerism and giving back to the community he loved. As a former social studies teacher I am sure he knew this quote from Winston Churchill; “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give”. Art gave much, and accordingly, had a full life that enriched so many others. I will always remember his wide smile and and hearty laugh. Rest in Peace friend.

I am so sad to read of Art’s passing. He was a classmate of mine and we shared the honor of being voted “Most Energetic “ of the SHS class of 1954. Prayers and God bless to Art’s family. Proud to call him my friend. Cathy

Each time I think of Mr. Smith, I also get to think of my father. Since he and Art were teaching friends, Adam (Nettie, and Andy) and I became friends. We as a family would stop for visits commonly on weekends and many times I would spend the night as a friend of Adam’s. I can still distinctly remember the great pipe smell that Mr. Smith would enjoy and can’t forget his booming voice as he would call out for Adam sometimes. I am shedding a few tears recalling the fun memories at the Smith home.
I hope you are at peace Mr. Smith and catching up with your loving wife.
