Mary Fran and Family, It is in these moments that we take stock of what is important. Friendships, good memories, happy events, reaching milestones, and telling our stories. May the wonderful occasions that you shared with Joe remain in your soul and lift you forward as you mourn his passing.

Our friendship began playing baseball for West High School.Later on we worked as bartenders for special events. He at the Corning Country Club and myself at Indian Hills Golf Club. We always made time to enjoy a brew in Painted Post or enjoy a steak or pizza at Moretti's Restaurant. If you ever had to choose a survivor companion it would have been Joe. He always demonstrated "pioneer" instincts! I remember a great day out on the boat on Seneca Lake. He was the Master Pro Fisherman helping our sons to bait their hooks and catch their fish. The day ended with Joe working his magic on the grill. The fish were delicious! Joe's heaven on earth was his wife MaryFran, his children, and grandchildren. There was his treasure. "The day when you have not laughed, is a day wasted." Joe never wasted a day. I know Heaven is enjoying his stories and contagious laughter. My family and I are so grateful for his friendship. Rest In Peace.

Joe was an outdoorsman like no other. He lived it just about every free moment he had outside of work and family. I called him ‘the great one’ which he would snicker away every time I said it. Joe could tell you the best time place and method to bring home ‘the meat’ for just about any fish or game you were after. He was a priceless source of knowledge for any outdoorsman that had the pleasure to know him. I respected him so much for that but I loved Joe mostly for his art of conversation. Joe kept you engaged and if you drifted he would shock you back by saying something extremely colorful or direct. I loved talking to Joe. He had the Irish gift for gab. One time Joe and I were going to meet another group of guys down at Montauk Long Island to go Striped Bass fishing on a charter boat. I hadn’t seen Joe in a couple of years so after I picked him up at the Salmon River we started catching up. We talked and laughed and laughed and talked our way to nearly the tip of the island, never turning on the radio or picking up a phone the entire way. When we saw the ocean we noticed it was a bit more than rough and we turned on the radio to find out that we had just driven into the heart of hurricane Kyle. So being die hards, we figured this sort of wind might blow the stripers into the shore, so we fished in bays and from cliffs for two days into sixty mile an hour winds and caught nothing but sand in our teeth. Joe didn’t have much quit in him. He called me a couple of weeks ago to talk a little fishing and tell me what he had been going through. I was more than concerned but and was confident he could beat it. No quitting in that guy. I remember perch fishing with Joe one spring and it started to rain in buckets. So I got on my knees in the front of the boat, so I could get my parka to cover my legs from the rain, and Joe hollered from the back of the boat, ‘Welchie, praying won’t do you any good, we are not quitting’. You were one of a kind Joe O’Rourke. Truly you were a ‘great one’ and a valued, good friend, I will miss you. My condolences to all of you he loved: truly a great loss. Tom Welch ie ‘Welchie’ PS the attached photo is of Joe fishing in a hurricane of Montauk, Long Island and a poem I sent him to sum up the experiance
