Obituary of Rose Mary Brown

Rose M. Brown age 82 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Friday July 16, 2021. Rose was born December 8, 1938 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Ann Elliott Sliwa and was raised by Leo and Hazel Gantert. She attended Elmira Free Academy and graduated from the BOCES Nursing Program. Rose was pre-deceased by her son Edward Michael Brown who was killed in a motor vehicle accident in Europe on July 13, 1982 along with his close friend Foke Fischer a Foreign Exchange Student who stayed with Ed's family. She was also pre-deceased by her siblings Walter Sliwa , Anne Wells and her brother-in-law Edward G. Brown. Rose was a retired LPN at Elcor Nursing Home with several years of dedicated service. She was a long-time member of The Horseheads Lioness Club. Rose loved her family and friends and treasured the time she spent with them. Rose is survived by her children: Melanie Smith , Rebecca (Daniel) Walp , Timothy (Alicia) Brown , JoAnn (Benjamin) Volk , and Kevin Brown; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren to be born in the near future; sister; Mary Kay (Mrs. Edward G.) Brown ; sister-in-law: Madge (Mrs. Walter) Sliwa; several niece, nephews , cousins, great friends and neighbors. The family would like to give a Special Thank You to Rose's caregiver Debbie Gleason. Relatives and Friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Saturday July 24, 2021 from 10 AM to 12 Noon. Rose's Funeral Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours. Rose will be laid to rest next to her beloved son Edward in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery in Horseheads, NY.
