Obituary of Carl F. Gross

Carl F. Gross "Coach" age 85 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Saturday November 13, 2021 as the result of a fall at home. Carl was born October 27, 1936 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Leo J. and Freeda M. Struble Gross. Carl was also pre-deceased by an infant brother Leo Gross. He was a star athlete and graduate of Horseheads High School Class of 1956 and received his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from Ithaca College. Carl married his wife, Patricia M. Edwards Gross, on August 17, 1963 and they recently celebrated their 58th Wedding Anniversary. Carl worked and taught Adult Swimming and Life-Saving at the Horseheads Swimming Pool for several years and was the Director prior to him stepping down from that position. He was a teacher at Horseheads Central School and coached football and track and was a NYS Track Official . Carl was a long-time member and Past President of The Horseheads Kiwanis Club and extremely proud of heading the committee honoring Firemen and Policemen of The Year. He was also a charter member and first treasurer of The Horseheads Elks Lodge #2297. Carl was a life-time communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church and member of The Knights of Columbus Council # 6158. Carl loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Carl is survived by his loving and devoted wife Patricia ; his children: Carl Andrew and Rebecca Gross of Windsor, Vermont ; Victoria A. Everett and Tracy Mitrano of Penn Yan, NY , and Daniel A. and Kristy Gross of Fairfield , Connecticut ; grandchildren: Conor Everett , Maggie (Cameron) Frisbie , Jack Everett, Abbie Everett , Noah Gross and Riley Gross, ; sister: Catherine (Mrs. Richard) Morrell of Horseheads, NY ; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Carol and Jack Mullen of Asheville, NC ; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Michael and Kathy Edwards of Horseheads, NY and Allen Edwards and Terry Stellrecht of Horseheads, NY ; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Wednesday November 17, 2021 from 1-4 and 7-9 PM . Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Thursday November 18, 2021 at St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 West Broad Street Horseheads, NY . Masks are required at Church.
