There was no better man than Durland. He brought so much love and happiness to our family when he became my Mom's special companion. I called him my Special Dad because he was more than a step dad. We spent many hours talking about family and the different places our families had been before our lives brought us together again.
He and my father were friends from the time they were 3 years old and the four of them (Durland & Mary, Orville & Joan) were best friends throughout their lives. When Mom came to live with Durland he made her so happy and he loved and accepted us all as his own children. Even after my Mom passed, he was still my Dad and I visited him often and loved the hours we spent together. When my husband took a job in Texas, I talked to him weekly and visited him every chance I got.
It will be difficult knowing I can no longer come to visit him and I will miss my weekly conversations with my Special Dad but I know he is at peace and happy to be reunited with his heavenly family.
