Obituary of John William Fridie

John William "Jack" Fridie age 94 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Friday February 18, 2022 due to complications of Parkinson's Disease. He was born on March 9, 1927 in Rochester , NY the son of the late William and Mary L. Brewer Fridie. Jack married his wife Beverly J. Leonard Fridie on August 1, 1948 and she pre-deceased him on March 8, 2008 after nearly 60 years of marriage. He was also pre-deceased by his sister Marion Leroy. `Jack grew up in Elmira, NY until his family moved to Sing Sing Road in Horseheads, NY during the depression. He lived on Sing Sing Road most of his life. Jack graduated from Horseheads High School and was a member of the Cornell University Class of 1950 . He also graduated from Corning Community College. Jack was employed at American Bridge in Elmira Heights and then Shepard Niles Crane and Hoist in Montour Falls until his retirement. Jack love doing metal sculptures, reading, watching movies especially comedies, and hiking on his property. Jack and Beverly loved their dogs, Irish Wolfhounds and Irish Water Spaniels, and attended many shows both as spectators and competitors. After Beverly's passing Jack found great comfort and joy with his adopted dogs Brownie, Snowy, his best friend Tundra, and his cats. Jack is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: M. Stephanie Fridie and David Kanarr and Silvie and Michael Wieczorek ; several caring friends. It was Jack's wish that there be no calling hours or funeral services. The family will have a private Memorial Service. Memorial donations may be made in Jack's name to The Horseheads Animal Shelter 150 Wygant Road Horseheads, NY 14845, The Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA 2435 NYS Route 352 Elmira, NY 14903 , or to The Finger Lakes Land Trust 202 East Court Street Ithaca, NY 14850.
