Elizabeth B. "Betty" Danaher, age 89, formerly of Horseheads, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. Betty was born April 25, 1933, in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Harry and Margaret Clancy Backer. She was a graduate of Southside High School in Elmira. Betty married her husband, M. Joseph Danaher, on October 6, 1956, and he predeceased her on December 17, 2019 after 63 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her infant son Mark John, her sons-in-law Edward McGrath and James Marks, her brothers and sisters Daniel Backer, John Backer, Harry Backer, Robert Backer, Margaret Wrigley and Catherine Heib. Betty was a devout Catholic and longtime communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads. She was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Elmira. Betty had a terrific sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke. She treasured her time with family and friends at Ormond Beach, FL and Keuka Lake. Betty is survived by her beloved children: Mary McGrath, Michael J. Danaher, Jr. (Donna), Margaret Beers (Richard), and Martha Marks; her 14 grandchildren: Catherine (Kyle), Patrick (Kelly), Daniel (Samantha), Ned, Jean (Matt), Michael, Kelly (Chris), Claire (Matt), Meg, Jack (Marlee), William, Robert, Richard (Ashley), and Patrick (Miranda); eleven great grandchildren: Maggie, Tommy, Ellie, Edward, Beatrice, James, Nora, Emilia, Casey, Charlotte and Calla; several nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of caring friends. A private Mass celebrating Betty's life was held Saturday, August 13, 2022, at St. Mary Our Mother Church. Betty was laid to rest next to her husband in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery.
