Obituary of Joanne M. Garrity

Joanne M. Garrity age 88 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Monday November 7, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Joanne was born February 22, 1934 in Portland, Oregon the daughter of the late Joseph L. Murphy and Anne M. Donigan Murphy. She married her husband, John L. "Jack" Garrity, on July 17,1958 at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and he pre-deceased her on October 25, 1999. Joanne was also pre-deceased by her brothers Ron, Bill, and Patrick Murphy. She was a devout communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, NY. Joanne was retired legal secretary for Atty. William A. Danaher Jr. in Horseheads for many years and also for the Chemung County Court System with Judge William A. Danaher Jr. for over 20 years of dedicated service. Joanne was beloved her family and friends , and treasured the time she spent with them. Joanne is survived by her loving and devoted children: Maureen and Jeff Guttman of Pittsburgh, PA; Sharon and Gary Ferguson of Horseheads, NY ; Kevin and Kimberley Garrity of Cape Coral, Florida; Eileen and Paul Flaherty of Easton, MA ; beloved grandchildren: Kelly Guttman (John) McGonigle , Terry (Mary Beth) Guttman, Samantha Ferguson (Blaine) Benthall, Peter (Arica) Ferguson, Madeline Ferguson (Curtis) Houper , Brianna Garrity (Joel) Johnson, Kate Flaherty, Sean Flaherty , Deanna Flaherty, and Emily Flaherty ; great grandchildren: Marlayna Benthall , Harper Ferguson ,Willa Benthall, Jack McGonigle , Taylen Ferguson, and Emory Houper; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary Lou and Ray Phillip of Portland, Oregon; Sharon and Pat McGowan of Bend, Oregon; Loie and David Murray of Horseheads, NY; sisters-in-law: Gloria (Mrs. Robert) Garrity of Rensselear, Indiana and Dorothy and Kevin Ranaghan of South Bend, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Joanne's family would like to express their gratitude for the care provided by the Bethany Manor Staff and especially Megan Peterson, FNP and Robert Burke , MD. We also want to thank Sandy and Dave Murray for the years of care they provided Joanne at her home. It was Joanne's wish that there be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Celebrating Joanne's Life on Saturday December 10, 2022 at 10 AM at St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 West Broad Street Horseheads, NY. Joanne will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Jack in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery in Horseheads, NY. There will be a gathering of friends and family at The Horseheads Elks Club from at 12-3 PM to celebrate Joanne's beautiful life.
