Joan Russell age 91 of Horseheads, NY formerly of Umatilla, Florida passed away on Wednesday March 29, 2023 . Joan was born July 12, 1931 in Elmira , NY the daughter of the late Raymond and Lonnell Walker Lain. She married her husband , H.Allen Russell, on December 18, 1949 and he pre-deceased her on February 6 , 2010. Joan was also pre-deceased by her grandson J. Harrison Russell and her brother Richard Lain . She was a medical secretary for Dr. King Snyder in Elmira, NY. Joan loved playing piano and did so for several churches . Joan and her husband retired on a 40 foot sailboat for 9 years traveling through Canada's canals , Mississippi River , The Bahamas, and settling in Florida. Joan loved her family and friends and treasured the time she spent with them. Joan is survived by her children : Mark and Laurie Russell of Lafayette, Indiana , Steve and Marlene Russell of St. Louis , MO , Nancy and Dave Donnelly of Horseheads, NY , and Kathryn Russell of Dryden, NY ; grandchildren : Matt and Stacy Russell , Andrew Russell , Sam Pinkleton , Allison Russell , Jesse Wixson , Gregory and Anna Wixson , and Jon and Jamie Wixson ; great grandchildren: Mackey and Lucille Russell , Grace and Ben Wixson , Lilly Wixson , Myka, Eden , Zeke , and Malachi Wixson; several cousins and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at The Community Wesleyan Church 2095 Grand Central Avenue Horseheads, NY on Saturday April 15, 2023 from 11 AM to 12 Noon. Joan's Memorial Service will be held following calling hours . Joan will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Allen in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Joan's Family wishes to thank all the staff at Appleridge , Bethany Memory Care Unit and The Rehabilitation Unit at The Manor for their loving care of Joan during her stay.
