Obituary of Anna Mae Evans

Anna Mae Evans, age 92, of Cary, North Carolina, died peacefully on June 18th, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathleen and James Lynch, who emigrated from Ireland; uncle, Cornelius O'Reilly; sister, Eileen Smith; brother, James Lynch; brothers-in-law, Wilfred (Barney) Barnstead, George Smith and Merlin Evans; sister-in-law, Lois Evans; niece, Elizabeth Silva. She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Donald H. Evans; sisters, Kathleen Theresa Barnstead and Rose Marie Drumm; sister-in-law, Louise Lynch; cousins, Catherine Margaret Hartwell (Lewis) and Mary Dillon (Peter); son, James Evans; daughter, Julie Evans Ord (Rob), and his sister Marjorie Wheatley; grandchildren, Lauren Ord (Kyle Wang), Jeffrey Ord and Elyce Evans (Matt Melcher); great-grandchildren, Declan, Savannah, and Crew; nieces and nephews, Deborah Danko (James), James Eugene Lynch, Joanne Fiori, beloved godchild (Terry), Todd Barnstead (Lisa), Christopher Drumm (Tawnya), Brian Drumm (Emilie), James Smith (Holly) and John Evans (Shelley); and many loving grandnieces and grandnephews. Anna Mae was born and grew up in Elmira, New York. She attended Southside High School, and was a devout communicant of St Mary's Catholic Church in Elmira. She was employed at the Elmira Star Gazette in classified advertising where she first met her husband Don, the love of her life. Later, Anna Mae was employed at the Columbia Savings Bank as a teller, then as a mortgage officer, and finally as a regional bank auditor. She was proud of her Irish heritage, and family meant the world to her. In 2000, Anna Mae and Don moved to Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina to be close to their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She and Don were communicants of Saint Andrews the Apostle Church in Apex, North Carolina, where they established many loving friendships. She also enjoyed time with her Village Of Sippihaw bible study group. Anna Mae always had a big beautiful smile, a heart full of kindness, and she never met a stranger. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday July 29th, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 Franklin St, Elmira, NY 14904. Calling hours will be held at 10am at the church and mass to follow at 11am. Anna Mae will be laid to rest in St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
