Obituary of Carol A. Laney

Carol Mengee Laney, Age 77, of Bethany Knoll Apartments, Horseheads, NY, passed away after an exended illness on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. She was born July 11, 1946 in Elmira, New York, the daughter of the late Eugene Leslie Mengee and Mary Henrietta Groh Mengee. Carol is survived by her loving husband, Douglas H. (Doug) Laney. They married on November 12, 1966 in Elmira, NY and enjoyed 57 wonderful years of life and love together. Her survivors include her son Scott H. Laney, six grandchildren, and several beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Margene (Mar) Mengee Thomas,. Carol graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1964 and attended Corning Community College. Carol was an animal lover who adopted numerous cats (and an occasional dog) over the years. Carol particularly enjoyed spending childhood summers at Keuka Lake with the extended Mengee clan. In her spare time, Carol enjoyed playing card games with several generations of family members. In recent years, she maintained contact with an extended circle of friends through her Facebook groups. Family and friends are planning a Celebration of Life to be scheduled at a time and location to be determined.
