I first came across Brooks Brender in December 1972 in front of his/Tom's beach house. They were testing a Renault Gordini in yellow. They had previously rolled one at Daytona. And took a Cadillac to Calif but got 2 flats at once in the cactus desert. I was on my way to Key West in my VW. Brooks was my best friend. He wanted me to help road-test cars in 1979 by calculating lateral G using Physics equations instead of a G-meter. But I was tied up representing IU at the ADA and writing for Quintessence International Berlin. I found him at Mass in Daytona December 2002 just before his mother died. The parishioners heard us and mistook us for car engineers. Brooks and I were fishermen. I used to prepare French dishes for Brooks and Holly. He was going to come to Michigan City and float out at the buoys with a cartridge belt but he didn't make it 'cause it was his time. I have lost all my good friends now. Including Fr. McGrogan and Gordon Lupert.

Brooks, we'll surely miss you! I had the luck of meeting Brooks in my Junior year of high school at Father Lopez in Daytona Beach, FL. Brooks, Stan Johnson, Frank Murray and myself palled around together and had as much fun a one could possibly imagine over the next few years until separated when leaving Daytona for college and Brooks for his stint in the Navy. Once Brooks returned from his service he became a photo journalist along side his step father Tom McCahill working for Mechanics Illustrated Magazine. Through this job and his travels Brooks met and stayed in touch with literally thousands of people and through this network of friends he was able to help many in need by establishing connections they otherwise would never be able to make.
I'll be missing all the stories that Brooks never had a chance to relate of his life but glad and grateful for sixty years of laughs and friendship.
Have a great trip to your heavenly reward my friend!

I have a life time of memories of Brooks, his mother and "Uncle" Tom. Our families were very close friends well before either Brooks' time or mine. Brooks was a devoted and loving son and equally as devoted to his many friends, his church and his organizations. Although I was never able to meet his wife he spoke of her with the love, respect and devotion I would have expected. When he visited our home with Holly, my husband and I both remarked on how happy and content he seemed with his life in Horseheads which was so amazing as all the years of living in the south made him hate cold weather. It was very clear to see that Holly and her family warmed his heart and supported his loss of his wife. Our prayers are with Holly and her family at this difficult time and our gratitude goes out to them for all they did to bring him comfort during his last years. Rest in peace dear friend.

We are so sorry to hear of your passing. I have so many fond memories of us growing up together in Ormond Beach, FL. Your Grandfather taking us shooting when we were 8 years old. Sailing on the Halifax River with my Cousin Jim Swango, Sand sledding behind my Dune Buggy on the beach with Frank Murray or racing sport cars with Scott Good. High School at Father Lopez in 1960-1. BJ's and my wedding in 1966. Life took us in different directions, too far away to see each other.
I know that you and Nancy are in a better place now. GOD Bless.
Miss you buddy, Stanley & BJ.

Brooks was a wonderful man we had a great time the last three years of his life. He came up and spent time with Mom and tell her death. He made me laugh and we did all kinds of fun things together. I'm going to miss his smile and a wonderful way he made me feel better when I was sad. I love you Brooks. You are with Mom now and the Holy Spirit and please rest in peace. I love you
