Obituary of John C. Bernas

John C. Bernas Age 71 of Horseheads, NY left his earthly home to join his parents in God's home on Sunday September 11, 2022. He was born on February 11, 1951 the son of the late John William and Dollie McLaughlin Bernas. John graduated from Horseheads High School and attended Corning Community College until his mother asked him to be a business partner with her at Big Top Ice Cream on the Miracle Mile. This was John's pride and joy for over 50 years and he was known as the "Ice Cream Man". Mr. Bernas was a retired machinist from Hardinge Inc. in Elmira, NY. John married his loving wife Linda L. Owen Bernas on November 11, 1977 and they would have celebrated their 45th Wedding Anniversary on November 11, 2022. John was a lifetime Scouter and was dedicated to helping so many scouts reach their Eagle rank. A true family man, he enjoyed spending most of his time with his children, grandchildren and being a devoted husband to Linda. John is survived by his devoted wife Linda L. Bernas; children: Matthew and Sarah Bernas of Castleton-on-Hudson, NY; Heather Bernas of Horseheads, NY; beloved grandchildren: Liam, Laureligh, and Lexie Bernas; sister and brother-in-law: Carol and Gerald Vargeson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; several extended family members, caregivers and friends.
